This Privacy Policy explains how 21meals (“21meals”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects your information when you use the 21meals mobile application and website (together, the “App”). We are based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, and we comply with applicable Indian data-protection law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
In short: we collect only what we need to plan your meals, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, mobile number and/or email address used to create and secure your account (for example, via OTP).
- Food preferences — whether you eat veg, egg or non-veg, the dishes you like or skip, dietary choices, and meals you save.
- Payment information — if you buy a paid plan, payment is processed by our third-party payment partner. We do not store your full card or banking details on our servers.
- Communications — messages you send us for support or feedback.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — screens viewed, meals planned, features used, and similar in-app activity that helps us improve the experience.
- Device data — device model, operating system, app version and a device identifier.
- Approximate location — only if you allow it, to tailor regional meal suggestions. You can turn this off in your device settings.
2. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- To build and personalise your meal plans based on your preferences.
- To process payments for paid plans and send related confirmations.
- To enable features such as sharing your menu over WhatsApp at your request.
- To send service messages (OTPs, important updates, and — only with your consent — occasional product news).
- To analyse usage and improve our features, content and performance.
- To keep the App safe and to meet our legal obligations.
3. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run the App — for example cloud hosting, analytics, OTP/messaging and payment processing — under contracts that require them to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us.
- At your direction — for instance, when you choose to share a menu via WhatsApp, that content goes to the contact you select through WhatsApp's own platform.
- Legal and safety — where required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users or 21meals.
4. Third-party services
The App relies on trusted third parties, each governed by its own privacy policy, which may include:
- Cloud hosting and databases for secure storage of your data.
- Payment gateway for processing paid subscriptions.
- Messaging/OTP providers for verification and notifications.
- Analytics providers to understand and improve app usage.
Data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal, tax or accounting requirements.
6. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction — view or update your details in the App, or by contacting us.
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and personal data.
- Withdraw consent — turn off location or opt out of promotional messages at any time.
- Grievance redressal — reach our Grievance Officer using the contact details below.
7. Children's privacy
The App is intended for adults managing household meals and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will remove it.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version here and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be notified within the App.
